We provide a regulated one stop service giving access to records held by the police, together with those held by the Department of Health (DH) and the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
Our history
Founded in 2003 by Barry Clark, a retired Police Superintendent, the business now employs several retired Police Officers, financial managers and sales directors. We are a family firm who pride ourselves on helping the local community, delivering a first-class service and ensuring best practice is upheld.
Cataphract is an umbrella organisation for the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) formerly known as the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)
Our service enables employers to make more thorough recruitment checks, particularly for positions that involve regular contact with children and protected adults.
Our service
Cataphract has been processing DBS checks since 2003 for NHS practices, local sports associations, schools, care homes, community projects and tutor schemes and missionary schools. We truly believe that the have developed our system to make it as user friendly and simple for the client as possible. Our flexible approach means that the customer can have as much or as little involvement in the management of the process as they wish, from none to full. Regardless of the involvement selected, Cataphract staff quality controls every application to eliminate errors.

Armed Forces Covenant
We proudly honour the contributions of Service personnel, reservists, veterans, the cadet movement, and military families to our organisation, community, and nation. Committed to the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant, we employ a number of Armed Forces veterans, enhance opportunities for Service spouses and partners, assist our Reserve Forces employees, and back those involved with military cadet organisations. We actively participate in national events like Armed Forces Day and Remembrance activities, and we welcome feedback from the Armed Forces Community and our customers on our progress.
UKAS Accreditation
UKAS accreditation is a formal recognition provided by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). It signifies that our organisation has been independently assessed and found to have the technical competence, impartiality, and performance capabilities to carry out specific tasks according to internationally 27001:2022 and 9001:2015 recognised standards. This accreditation ensures that our accredited organisation are reliable and can be trusted to deliver high-quality services and products. It covers various aspects such as testing, verification and inspection.
ISO 27001:2022
ISO 27001:2022 is the globally recognised Information Security Management Systems standard. It is officially known as the ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Management standard. Achieving this certification demonstrates that our organisation has implemented a systematic approach to managing sensitive company information, such as customer and employee details, intellectual property, financial information and third-party data. The certification process requires us to assess information security risks, implement robust security controls and processes, and embed information security management across our organisation.
